Historic grand piano backchecks precut

We restore square pianos, square grands and fortepianos.  These smaller scale pianos have smaller scale piano actions, and many of them have a certain shape that they used for their backchecks.  These were cut out of buckskin suede leather and two or more of them were glued together with the backcheck wire between them.  As flimsy as this sounds and looks, they worked very well.

I had a special tool made to cut hundreds of these leather pieces.  I make them out of chrome tanned leather that closely resembles the original buckskin and has the correct stiffness.  While these seemed, at the time, to have been a standard piano supply item they have not been made for around 100 years.

All you have to do is glue them together with the wire in between.

Please send me a couple of samples as some pianos use three or four layers of leather.  Also, some use suede all around, while some use one piece with a shiny side out.  Some incorporate felt into the mix as well.  Some require me to laminate two or more layers before cutting them out for more stiffness.

Prices quoted after seeing samples.  Our prices are $45.00 per hour for this work and we are fast.
