Reinhard piano
SOLD
What do you do when the piano just won't go up the stairs?
This piano was sold to some folks who wanted it upstairs because it would not go anywhere else.
Movers first tried moving it up in one piece. It took a couple hours and they gave up. If they could have levitated it things would have worked. They could not pick the piano up high enough for the keybed to go above the newel post at the turn. In failing to get it up the stairs they damaged it quite a bit so when it came back to the shop, not only was I unhappy that it was back but we had to spend several days repairing the damage.
Unfortunately, I forgot to get pics of the move up the stairs, but suffice it to say, the piano had to be dismantled in the shop. We removed the action, the keybed, the arms, the bottom board, the pedal rail. The only thing left was the back and sides with toes attached. In that condition it went around the newel post easily. Once all the pieces were moved to the house, taken up the stairs, and laid out on the bedroom carpet, reassembly was begun with the piano on the tilter.
This is the impossible stairway
Most of it came up in pieces
Keybed and legs re-installed.
Back on its feet
The happy pianist.
